As many readers of this book know, late in 1993, after many years of trying to get good, accurate international results of photography auctions, Marty Gordon finally decided that if he wanted that kind of data, he had to accumulate it himself. As a result, Gordon's published its first photography price guide in the Spring of 1995.
The book you are about to use is the seventh annual edition, and the fourth edition issued in hardbound format. It is also the fourth to include advertisements, and we will continue to solicit and accept them.

Finally, a gentle caveat, in Marty's words from the 1995 book, "Of course we have taken care to make sure the data we have entered is as accurate as possible, but we are unable to guarantee this data and caution you that you should not make any decisions to purchase or sell a photograph solely on our supplied data. Besides the accuracy or inaccuracy of the data supplied to us by the auction house and our transcribing of that data, there are many other variable factors that can occur which determine the price and value of a photograph. I hope that the data we have supplied does help you in your endeavor...and [keeps you]...better informed in this interesting and exciting market."
